Frequently Asked Questions
Wood Pressed Oil refers to the method of extracting oil from seeds and nuts without using any heat. In this process, the ingredients are mechanically pressed at a low temperature, typically below 50°C, to retain the natural nutty flavor, aroma, color, and nutritional value.
On the other hand, Refined Oils undergo a more complex industrial process that includes refining, bleaching, and deodorizing. Refined Oils are often exposed to high temperatures (above 100°C) during extraction, and various chemicals may be used to remove flavors and odors. This refining process increases the production yield and shelf life but leads to a loss of natural nutrients and flavors present in the original ingredients.
At Healthify, we extract all our oils in small batches using Wood Pressed method only. Our machines have wooden and stone parts, rotating at a slow speed of less than 20RPM. Hence, the word "Wood Pressed". This method is also called Kolhu or Ghani or Lakdi Ghani and is often used in the villages.
Wood Pressed Oils are extracted using a slower mechanical pressing method at low temperatures, which is a less efficient process compared to the high-temperature extraction used in Refined Oil or Expeller Pressed Oil. The slower extraction process means that less oil is produced from a unit of raw ingredients (yielding only about 25%-40%), contributing to higher production costs. Additionally, our Cold Pressed Oils use premium-quality raw ingredients, further increasing the cost compared to Refined Oils.
At Healthify, we follow a simple business principle: Own all processes end-to-end and minimize reliance on third parties. We eliminate middlemen at every step, handling everything in-house - from buying raw materials directly from farmers to cleaning, preparation, production, and packaging. We also manage complete branding, marketing, and technology internally. No middlemen, no brokers, and no third party agencies. These cost savings accumulate, allowing us to maintain lower product costs than other brands. Many of our competitors are merely marketing facades, outsourcing their manufacturing to third parties.
Since our Wood-Pressed Oils contain no chemical preservatives, the shelf life is approximately 9-18 month depending upon which seed. This is why we extract oil in small batches on-demand rather than all at once. When you consume, just ensure that the oil is not past the expiration date printed on the container.
Our Wood Pressed Oils are 100% unrefined. These are extracted using a completely mechanical process and then filtered using a sieve or cloth. Hence, you might find some sediments of the raw ingredients settling at the bottom of the oil over time, making the oil cloudy. This is a natural characteristic of the Wood Pressed Oils and does not reduce their quality.
Wood Pressed Oils may contain higher levels of moisture compared to Refined Oils due to the gentler extraction process and natural filteration (sieve or cloth) that retains more natural elements. When frying, moisture from the food being cooked can react with the hot oil, leading to foaming.
